2015   GQGQ Activities



On Saturday, October 18, 2014 Sharon presented a special storytime program at Saguaro National Park in Tucson, Arizona.  She not only enjoyed telling her story about the Gambel's Quail who wanted to explore his environment, but also had time to enjoy the beautiful environment at the park (with puppet projects, too). 

Sharon was excited to share her Gambel's quail storybook, "GQGQ Where Are You? Adventures of a Gambel's Quail" on Saturday, April 19, 2014 in Fort Collins Colorado in the Council Tree Library.  Both parents and children enjoyed learning about the Quail and other animals, birds and plants and made "Paper Plate Puppets" to share with others.

On Saturday, March 15, 2014, Sharon participated in the Tucson Festival of Books (in southern Arizona) where she was available for signing her books.  She also participated in a panel discussion at the University of Arizona and provided special music activities for the children who attended her outdoor sessions. 

Sharon read her new children's book, "GQGQ Where Are You? Adventures of a Gambel's Quail," on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, AZ.  The activities took place in the Youth Facilities building, after the children explored some of the outdoor areas in the Garden.  Parents also particpated with the music and craft activities that Sharon provided after telling the Gambel's quail story.  Each child received a signed copy of the book before leaving the activities area.  

On Sunday, February 2, 2014 at 10:00 AM, Sharon spoke about the Gambel's quail to children at the Cave Creek Regional Park.  Her program introduced the children to the Sonoran desert, as well as the plants, birds and animals that are described in her book: GQGQ Where Are You? Adventures of a Gambel's Quail.  The children also participated in music and craft activities with Sharon.

On Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 10:00 AM, at Estrella Mountain Regional Park, Sharon shared her storybook about a Gambel's quail with the youth particpants.  After reading, she provided music and craft activities for the youth participants.  Each child will receive a signed copy of Sharon's book: GQGQ Where Are You? Adventures of a Gambel's Quail .

November, 2013: Book Fairs and Activities

On Sunday, November 3, 2013: At the Scholastic Book Fair.  Local Author, storyteller and singer Sharon I. Ritt presented presented an afternoon of storytelling and song and at the East Valley JCC.   

On Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the Narnes and Noble Kierland store, Sharon presented her new story: "GQGQ Where are you?  Adventures of a Gambel's Quail," complete with "stories, puppets and songs."  She will be available to sign copies of her book at the end of the program.

At the North Mountain Regional Park Visitors Center on Saturday, November 16, 2013, Sharon sang songs and read her new book: "GQGQ Where Are You?  Adventures of a Gambel's Quail"  to young visitors at the Park.  Several FiveStar Publication authors were also there to share their stories with the visitors.

On Sunday, November 24, 2013, Sharon participated in the Desert Ridge Barnes and Noble Book Fair sponsored by the Greater Paradise Valley Reading Council.  The Fair took place from 1 to 3 P.M. and a portion of the book sales were used to support community projects.  Sharon read her book, "GQGQ Where Are You? Adventures of a Gambel's Quail" to the children and and provided music and crafts as part of her program.

Saturday, September 21, 2013: The APS Back to School Resource Fair and Reception is presented in partnership with the ASU Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College from 10AM to 7PM. Check in is from 10AM to 3 PM at ASC Annex.  Educators are invited to attend workshops and demonstrations from 11:30 AM-5PM at ASU downtown and attend a dinner at 5:20 at the ASC (Arizona Science Center).  There is no charge for the activities or dinner.

Saturday, July 13, 2013: 10AM to 11 AM: Sharon presented a program of stories and songs at the Pueblo Grande Museum in Phoenix as well as a PowerPoint presentation as she told the story of GQ GQ. Where Are You? Adventures of a Gambel's Quail.  After the program she was available at the Museum Gift Shop to sign her books.

Thursday, June 13, 2013:  From 9:45 AM to 11:30 AM, Sharon presented a  program of songs and stories for children at the Desert Foothills Library in Cave Creek, Arizona.  She will also tell the story of "Georgy" and his adventures in the Sonoran Desert from her new book GQ GQ. Where Are You? Adventures of a Gambel's Quail.

June 30, 2013:  Sharon's new children's book, GQ GQ Where Are You? Adventures of a Gambel's Quail, is now available at, Barnes and Noble and  Check the "Events Page" of the websites to see where she will be presenting storytelling and music programs as well as programs about the Sonoran Desert, the Gambel's Quail and her new book.

October 16, 2012: Sharon presented an interactive storytelling and song program to children in kindergarten and third grade classrooms at Zach Elementary School in Fort Collins, Colorado.  Great fun for all!

September, 2012 - May, 2013:  "Stories and Songs with Sharon"

Sharon will be singing and telling stories again in the fall of 2012 through May, 2013  at the Desert Foothills Library in Cave Creek, Arizona.  This will be her 7th year volunteering at this wonderful library and the third year working with the "little ones."  See last years post below for hours, ages and library contact information.

September 1, 2011 - May, 2012:  "Stories and Songs with Sharon"

Join Sharon as she begins her sixth year as a storyteller at the Desert Foothills Library in Cave Creek, Arizona. Sharon's storytime will be on Thursdays from 9:45 AM to 10:l5 AM and begin on September 1,  2011.  The songs, stories and activities are designed for children ages "birth to two."  However, children up to ages two or three are welcome, as many families have visitors or older siblings.  The Desert Foothills Library is located at 38443 N. February 1, 2011:  "Folksongs, Folktales and Writing Fun: for Students in Grades K-1"--an interactive workshop for Kindergarten teachers in the PVUSD was presented from 3:45-5:45 PM at the Quail Run Elementary School.  Contact Sharon at if you are interested in this (or other) workshops for the teachers in your district.

June 12, 2010: "Storytelling and Songs with Sharon"  Sharon presented this program for children ages 5-10 years old at the Desert Foothills Library in Cave Creek from 10:00-11:00 AM on Saturday, June 12, 2011.  The children participated in role-play telling of several of the stories in this program. Parents and care-givers also attended the event.

February 4-6, 2010 33rd Southwest Regional International Reading Association (IRA) Conference, Oklahoma City, OK and February 17-20, 2010: 20th West Regional IRA Conference, Portland Oregon  Sharon presented a workshop entitled: "Modalities, Music and Poetry Writing: Activities for Students in Grades 1-6" at each of these regional conferences. January 14, 2009: Sharon presented a hands-on workshop to members of the Greater Paradise Valley Reading Council entitled: "Around the World with Folktales: Teachers and Children as Storytellers."

January 4, 2007: "Sharon's Wonderful World of Stories and Songs" and an interview by Judy Bartelstone was aired at the Sun Sounds of Arizona radio station. This program received an award from the International Association of Audio Information Services (IAAI).  It was one of six awards received by Sun Sounds for their 2006 programming--the most awards received by an IAAI station world-wide. 2006 Workshops: February 2nd: Sharon presented her workshop: "Folksongs, Folktales and Writing Fun" to 95 participants at the IRA Conference in Albuquerque, NM.  In this hands-on workshop, songs and stories provided the stimulus for teaching writing to children in Grades 1 through 6.  Each participant received a handbook of teaching ideas and activities.  March 25th: During "Borders Books Education Week," Sharon presented a workshop for parents, teachers and children about how  they can use music for reading, writing and movement activities.  This workshop was held at the Border's Books at the 101 and Scottsdale Rd in Scottsdale, AZ.  May 9th: Music and poetry writing were the focus of Sharon's workshop: "Color My World with Words: Poetry Activities for Students in Grades 1-6," presented for the members of the Greater Paradise Valley Reading Association at their May meeting.  All participants received a handbook of teaching ideas.
